I am a Medical Editor/Writer with substantial experience and a very keen eye for detail. I have also worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry as an Information Scientist, during which time I gained a very good understanding of the Industry's marketing needs, balancing these against authors viewpoints.

Freelance Medical Editor/Writer: 1996 to date

Working with a variety of high-profile clients within the medical publishing/medical education fields. Commissioning doctors and specialists in various specialties. Extensive copy editing (including major rewriting of articles written by specialists for whom English is not their first language). Reference checking. Writing including conference reports/slide production. Advanced page makeup using QuarkXPress and InDesign. Proofreading. Liaising closely between clients, authors, designers and illustrators to ensure project is produced to a very high standard and to deadline.

Medical Imprint (Medical Communications Agency): Managing Editor 1990-1996 (London)

Ensured projects produced to a very high quality to schedule and within budget, as agreed between the sales/editorial teams and client. Supervised a team of sub-editors. Other duties: commissioning, editing, proofreading, page layout, picture research.

Mims Magazine, Haymarket Publishing: Production Editor (initially Assistant Editor) 1984-1990 (London)

Liaised between the advertising department, art department, typesetters and printers to ensure magazine produced on time and within budget. Drew up flat plans, liaised closely with advertising department to ensure clients' and editor's wishes met. Oversaw relaunch of magazine in 1990. Commissioned articles, edited and proofread copy, undertook picture research, wrote news stories from conferences attended in the UK and abroad.

Schering Health Care: Medical Information Scientist 1981-1983 (Burgess Hill, West Sussex)

Answered queries from medical/allied professions on the Company's products. Scanned journals for relevant medical articles and produced current awareness bulletins. Undertook literature searches for in-house personnel. Wrote technical brochures, product monographs, abstracts and other literature as required.
